Solihin Garrard founded Makesfive ltd in 1999 following four years' experience in the UK as a self-employed consultant, and before that 15 years as a teacher and project manager in education in the UK.

Makesfive's purpose is to help organisations realise their potential through quality achievement of their objectives

We do this through:

helping partnerships and organisations to work most effectively, and to work together
supporting organisations with their strategic planning and delivery of projects
undertaking research, reviews and evaluations
helping to build capacity through delivering learning and training

Makesfive has supported many partnership and collaborative initiatives in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Solihin himself has presented keynote speeches to senior policy makers; helped develop effective collaborative working within many Local Strategic Partnerships and undertaken national evaluation projects. He has also run innovative 2-day workshops to develop partnership skills; developed the Voluntary and Community section on the IDeA Knowledge website and currently manage one of IDeA's Communities of Practice.

Following a review of "what works" for data sharing for LSPs with EDuce ltd (with which Makesfive has had regular association), Solihin was part of the team evaluating the Supporting Evidence for Local Delivery pilots for the DCLG. He has run workshops on data sharing & data protection and supported organisations on a one-to-one basis. He has also published research (e.g. on performance management), written journal articles and in 2008 wrote a guide to "How your Council Works" for the National Empowerment Partnership.

Solihin is an Associate of the Learning and Skills Network, and framework contractor for the Improvement and Development Agency for local government (UK).

Solihin is a former secondary school teacher/ head of department, and local authority project manager. He lives in Canterbury and has five children and ten grandchildren.
